As with the driver and front passenger airbags a solid propellant is ignited to produce the propellant gas to inflate the sidebag. The propellant gas
blows up the sidebag, the plastic housing tears open in the middle and the sidebag expands into the passenger compartment through the predetermined
breakage line in the door liner.

The sidebag protects the driver or front passenger with its entire volume (approx. 16 l) from colliding with the door or B-pillar area.

After reaching its maximum protective effect the gas in the sidebag escapes via an insert made of gas-permeable filtering fabric and the sidebag
collapses immediately.

NOTE:  After the sidebag unit has been deployed, the torn out center section of the door liner must be replaced. Install the new sidebag only with the
specified special rivets.
