Air Bag Control Module: Description and Operation
ETR Control Module with Airbag, Purpose
In normal driving operation the airbag control module (N2/7) performs the following operations:

Self-test when circuit 50R is "ON" and continuous system monitoring during driving operation

Storage of up to 10 recognized malfunctions in the DTC memory

Actuation of the SRS malfunction indicator lamp (A1e15) in the instrument cluster when a malfunction is recognized.

Actuation of the automatic child seat recognition warning lamp (N72e1)
-
Preventing erroneous actuation during normal driving operation with additionally implemented safety sensor
The airbag control module (N2/7) performs the following operations in the event of a collision:

Recognition and evaluation of the type and severity of the collision

Recognition of the switch status of the left front seat belt buckle switch (S68/3) and right front seat belt buckle switch (S68/4) at the moment of
collision (only on (USA) version)

Actuation of the driver airbag (R12/3) and passenger airbag (R12/8)
-
Actuation of driver emergency tensioning retractor (R12/1) and passenger emergency tensioning retractor (R12/2)
-
Actuation of the left rear emergency tensioning retractor (R12/6) and right rear emergency tensioning retractor (R12/7) (SA)
-
Actuation of the left front side airbag (R12/20) and right front side airbag (R12/21)
-
Actuation of the left rear side airbag (R12/11) and right rear side airbag (R12/12) (SA)
-
Actuation of the left rear window airbag (R12/22) and right rear window airbag (R12/23) (SA)
-
Recording of up to 3 crash logs

Shutting off the engine when the airbags are actuated via the engine control module (ME-SFI) (N3/10) (gasoline engines) or EDS control module
(N39/2)

Initialization of an emergency call via the emergency call system control module (TELEAID) (A35/8) when the airbags are actuated in the event of
a severe rear end collision or rollover

Provision of power reserves for igniting the squibs in the event of a power failure e.g. resulting from an accident (requirement: five squibs must be
capable of being fired simultaneously within 150 ms after power failure.
