Fault Message in Instrument Cluster (IC) "Battery: Visit Workshop"
If you receive customer reports in the above models of the instrument cluster displaying the fault message
Battery: Visit Workshop", the battery may be discharged. In this case, fault code 9000 [Control Unit Defective] may be stored in the Battery Control
Module (BCM). Follow the procedure below to repair.
1.
Check the Q status and part number of the Battery Control Module (BCM).
2.
If BCM is installed with part number A 211 540 13 45 with status of Q1 to Q4, remove/install/replace BCM with either of the following part
numbers and Q status:
^
A 211 540 13 45 with status Q5 or higher
^
A 211 540 27 45 with status Q2 or higher
Refer to WIS document GF54.21-P-4121T for further information on the BCM location and function.
Note:
Regarding the fault message Malfunction - Electrical consumers switched off!"
This white lettered message is displayed in the Instrument Cluster when the BCM detects a low battery charge level. Messages in white lettering serve
only to inform the driver that power consumers which have no impact on driving safety will be switched off until the overall condition of the battery has
stabilized. This message appears in the instrument cluster to notify the customer of the low capacity of the battery. If the battery voltage is too low, the
heated seats and or heated rear window may switch off automatically until the battery charge level returns a predetermined value. The indicator lamps in
these switches will blink while they are switched off and will stop blinking when these systems are switched back on.
