Equipped with Charge Air Sensor B17/8 and Airmatic Suspension 

Level at Rear Axle Too Low

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles (equipped with charge air sensor B17/8) where the level at the rear axle is too low and
cannot be readjusted, and the airmatic compressor cannot be actuated via Star Diagnosis, perform the following to resolve.

1.

Using STAR Diagnosis follow the path Control Units --> Drive --> ME / CDI --> Complete List of Guided Tests --> Check component B17/8
(Charge Air Temperature Sensor).

2.

Follow STAR Diagnosis in order to check the charge air temperature sensor B17/8 and associated harness. If instructed, replace the charge air
temperature sensor B17/8.

3.

If the condition is not resolved, investigate the functionality of relay K67 and/or the airmatic compressor.

Note:

In this case, the airmatic compressor cannot be actuated via Star Diagnosis but no fault code is stored. This is due to the malfunctioning of the
air temperature sensor B17/8; if the ambient temperature is too high, the control unit will not permit the operation of the airmatic compressor.
At the moment, it appears that components produced from May 2004 to August 2004 are more likely to be susceptible to this condition. A
malfunctioning charge air temperature sensor will erroneously indicate an ambient temperature of 140 - 150 °C (285 - 300 °F). Figure 1
identifies the tool cavity with the manufactured date below it (example: 6.04 = June 2004).
