Starter Turns but Engine Does not Start / Gear Selector Lever Cannot be Moved Out of Park Position "P" / Fault Codes B219116, B219600, B219700
Stored In Rear SAM
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the starter turning (cranks) but the engine may not start or the gear selector lever cannot
be moved out of park ("P") position, this may be due to the no-load (quiescent) current switch (RSS) not functioning correctly. To remedy, follow the
procedure below.
Note:
When this condition occurs, it is possible that Circuit 30g cannot be measured at the prefuse box preventing correct diagnosis of the SAM or
actuation of the no-load current switch since diagnosis is only possible when Circuit 30 or 30g are present. You can connect a battery charger to
ckt30/30g to pin 30/32 (reference WIS Document GF54.15-P-1256-07CE for proper pin outs) in order to use DAS for actuation and diagnosis. If any
of these circuits are missing, it may be caused by inoperative RSS switch, a line signal/contact to the RSS switch broken or the rear SAM unable to
actuate the no-load current switch.
Since the actuation of the RSS switch occurs only once when the vehicle is opened, or when the ignition is switched ON, the following steps must be
taken first:
