Replacing Front Door or Side Airbag

Due to updated front door sheet metal on the above model vehicles, when replacing a front door or a side airbag, both the door and the side airbag must
be inspected. Follow the inspection steps below and if required, perform the additional modifications steps.

Inspection Steps:

1.

Inspect replacement front door to determine if side airbag location hole is present (Figure 1, 3)

2.

Inspect side airbag to determine if locating tab is present (Figure 1, 4).

3.

If tab is not present on side airbag, no modification to the replacement door is needed.

4.

If tab is present and replacement door does not have location hole, then modification of the replacement front door is required.

Modification Steps:

1.

Place side airbag into position on replacement door, by using mounting holes for alignment.

2.

Mark center of locating tab (Figure 1, 4) on replacement door.

3.

Remove side airbag.

4.

Drill 10.5-mm diameter hole in replacement door sheet metal, at the center of the marked location (Figure 1, 3).

Note: 

If window glass is already installed in replacement door, ensure window glass will not be damaged by drilling.

5.

Smooth rough edges of hole.

6.

Clean, prime (with priming stick or zinc dust paint) and paint hole.

7.

Remove metal chips from bottom of door.
