Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Replacing Radial Shaft Seal in Front Cover at Top

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

1. Remove follower at camshaft.
2. Pry out seal (1)

CAUTION  Use care not to damage camshaft and/or seal bore.

3. Position insertion sleeve tool No. 103 589 01 14 00, or equivalent, on camshaft.
4. Coat sealing lip of seal with engine oil.

CAUTION  DO NOT use grease.

Shop Made Sleeve For Pressing In Seal

5. Fit seal onto insertion sleeve, then using a suitable locally made tool (see illustration) press seal into position

NOTE  Shaft seal must be positioned perpendicular to the seal for a proper seal
