About the S-Class
The S-Class ("Sonderklasse", special class) is Mercedes-Benz's flagship saloon, officially named from 1972. It has introduced many of the company's innovations, including the first seatbelt pretensioners, and has ranked as the world's best-selling luxury saloon. Its two-door versions were called SEC, then S-Class Coupé, and from the 1996 model year the CL-Class.
What these manuals cover
- 1994–1998 (W140): the 3.2 six, the 3.5 turbo diesel, the 4.2 and 5.0 V8s and the 6.0 V12, in sedan and coupe.
- 2000–2006 (W220): the 4.3 and 5.0 V8s with or without 4MATIC, the S 55 AMG, the twin-turbo 5.5 V12 of the S 600 and the S 65 AMG.
- 2007–2008 (W221): the S 550's 5.5 V8, the S 600 and the S 65 AMG.
Tip: the first number in brackets is the model code, and its first three digits give the chassis series (210.065 is a W210). The second number is the engine code (112.941 is an M112 engine), so manuals for other models with the same engine code cover the same engine.
