Valve Spring: Testing and Inspection

Preparation

Valve springs removed (05-2500)

Overview

-

Clean valve springs.

CAUTION:  Replace valve springs which are not to dimensional tolerance, are corroded, have  surface rust, mechanical damage or worn at the ends.

Check, match color coding on valve springs, see table below.

Measure spring force at pretensioned length.

If the valve springs do not achieve the specified spring force, they cause a loss of frictional connection at high engine speeds and should be
replaced.
