Steering Shaft: Service and Repair

NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.
INSTALLATION
1. Screw in the countersunk screw (32c) to protect the splines.
2. Slide the lower steering shaft (80a) onto the upper steering shaft (70g) and install bolt and nut (80h).
3. Mount suitable thrust piece (037) or tube (037a) to protect the lower steering shaft (collapsible tubing).
4. Using a press or upright drill, slide the lower steering shaft (80a) onto the upper steering shaft (70g) until the disc spring (70e) is fully preloaded.

Check the jacket tube for ease of movement by turning it at the same time (arrow).
5. Tighten nut and bolt (80h) in this position :to 25 Nm
