After the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center (CAC) has received a TELE AID telediagnosis a radio link is established to the vehicle to ask the
driver what type of fault has occurred. This allows to start rescue measures corresponding to the vehicle defect.
The radio connection between the vehicle and the responsible service center is completed in the vehicle via the telephone system.

If the CTEL antenna (A2/22) is no longer operational because of a fault, the system switches over automatically to the TELE AID backup antenna
(A2/50). If the power supply is completely interrupted it is automatically switched over to the additional battery (G1/1).
The voice link is established through the hands-free microphone (B25) and the loudspeakers of the emergency call system (H4/46, H4/47).

After an EMERGENCY CALL is received by the central services (police, fire department etc.), a radio connection is set up with the vehicle in order to
be able to question the occupants or persons involved. This allows rescue measures to be started depending on the actual severity of the accident.
The radio traffic between the vehicle and the responsible rescue center is accomplished via the vehicle phone system.

This takes place over the telephone antenna (A2/22) and the telephone transmitter/receiver, D2B (A35/13) .

Should the telephone antenna no longer be capable of operating as the result of an accident the system automatically switches over to the Emergency call
backup antenna (A2/50) .

The voice link is established through the handsfree system microphone (B25) and the loudspeakers of the emergency call system (H4/46, H4/47).

The voice connection must exist for at least 30 seconds. If it is interrupted during this time, the call connection is repeated.

Switch-on characteristics

The EMERGENCY CALL system is switched on by turning the key in the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) to the "circuit 15R ON" position. The switch-on
procedure is indicated by the indicator lamp flashing (5 s) in the EMERGENCY CALL system pushbutton switch (S93/3).The system is ready for
operation.
After switching on the emergency call system control unit (EMERGENCY CALL, A35/8) telephone transmitter/ activates the receiver (A35) and waits
for the readiness confirmation from the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) .

If the system is not authorized, an error message appears in the instrument cluster and the system is not operational.
