Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
Replace Radial Seal at Drive Pinion (Rear Axle Installed)
Replace Radial Seal At Drive Pinion (rear Axle Center Assembly Installed)
DANGER:

Risk of death Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform

Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points
specified by the vehicle manufacturer
CAUTION: Installation: Replace self-locking nuts and bolts

Drain rear axle oil

Remove exhaust system (105) from flange connection

Remove exhaust heat shield (105c)

Slacken propeller shaft clamping nut (106c)

Unscrew bolts at propeller shaft intermediate bearing (106a)
NOTE: Installation: Only tighten the bolts of the propeller shaft intermediate bearing after attaching the flexible coupling to the rear axle center
assembly

Detach rear propeller shaft assembly (106) from rear axle center assembly
NOTE:
-
Flexible disk remains on propeller shaft
-
Release guide sleeves on Hardy couplings
-
Push rear propeller shaft forward out of the centering at the drive bevel gear and take it off to the rear

Installation. Pay attention to existing marking

Remove cover of fuel pump assembly (140)

Vehicles with gasoline engine, except model 203

Remove rear axle shafts (37) from connecting flange
NOTE: Move rear axle shaft so that is roughly horizontal and then push together Secure rear axle shaft at rear axle carrier
CAUTION:

Installation: Replace self-locking polygon head cap screws or hexagon socket head screws and washers
-
Lightly oil bolts at thread and bolt head contact surface

Measure and note friction torque

Release and unscrew twelve-point nut or hexagon collared nut (40)
