Operation of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) on the multifunction steering wheel

Various systems that are controlled via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) can be operated with the aid of the buttons on the multifunction
steering wheel (MFL) and the upper multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1) and information about the systems displayed. These
include:

Audio systems (e.g. radio, integral Digital Versatile Disk (DVD)-ROM drive)

^

Telephone system

^

Navigation system

The exchange of data between the instrument cluster (A1) and the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) takes place via the Local
Interconnect Network (LIN) bus, the MOST and the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B).

All button actuations on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) are received by the steering column module (N80) via the LIN bus and read in on the
CAN-B (voltage-coded). The steering column module (N80) is the interface between the LIN bus and the CAN-B. The instrument cluster (A1) receives
the coded messages via the CAN-B and has the currently active or operated system displayed via the upper multifunction display (A1p13). The data and
signals are forwarded via the central gateway control unit (N93) (interface between CAN-B and Controller Area Network bus class C (engine
compartment) (CAN-C)) and the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) (interface between CAN-B and MOST) to the COMAND operating, display and
control unit (A40/3) and the other MOST components.
