This article revises the current 1983 Car Shop Manual service procedure for flywheel housing inspection and alignment.
With incorporation of the "Multi-Stage" clutch disc, estimated March, 1983, a new tool and revised procedure for checking flywheel housing face and
bore runout is required. The current method of locating in the I.D. of the clutch disc hub, using alignment tool post assembly (Tool T75L-6392-L or
equivalent) is not recommended for "Multi-Stage" clutch disc applications. The design of the "Multi-Stage" disc allows for movement in the area of the
hub. Therefore, using the I.D. of the hub as a mounting location will result in erratic dial indicator readings.
The alignment procedure in the Car Shop Manual, Volume D, Section 16-01 is unchanged except for Step
4.
