5.

Position the replacement valve (part number E4SZ-9F491-A). Connect the three air hoses to the lower portion of the valve.

6.

Lower the vehicle.

7.

Reconnect the two vacuum hoses to the upper portion of the valve.

8.

Install the air cleaner "zip" tube.

9.

Close the hood.

Reporting of Completions

Upon completion of the required service, return the second copy of the Form 1864 completely filled out and signed by authorized dealership personnel.
Only the Form 1864 will be accepted for reimbursement. You are encouraged to use the Direct Warranty Entry (DWE) System for this program. It is
important that all claims be filed for all completed units so that our records will show completion. Any problems encountered with this recall should be
discussed with your FPSD Service Zone Manager.

Dear Owner:

This notice is sent to you by the Ford Motor Company because we want the emission control systems on all of our products to work properly. We have
found that some 1984-model year Thunderbird, Cougar, LTD and Marquis vehicles which have the 3.8L engine and automatic transmission may require
modification to help assure acceptable levels of exhaust control and to improve fuel economy. Our records indicate that you own one of these vehicles
which is identified by the serial number shown on the enclosed form.

DESCRIPTION OF CONDITION:

Your vehicle may have been manufactured with an incorrect exhaust air supply control valve. The valve controls the supply of air that is injected into the
exhaust system and affects the proper mixture of air and fuel.

SERVICE TO BE PERFORMED:

Ford is voluntarily recalling your vehicle to inspect and, if necessary, replace the exhaust air supply control valve. This service will be performed at no
charge to you.
