Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair
Wheel Speed Sensor
Front
Removal and Installation
1.
Open Hood. Disconnect main wheel sensor connector.
2.
Remove bolt and washer securing wheel sensor to spindle carrier. Carefully pull out sensor and O-ring.
3.
Remove sensor loom from cable supports.
4.
Liberally coat sensor spindle carrier bore and chamfer with Multi-Purpose Long-Life Lubricant or equivalent. Push sensor firmly into spindle
carrier bore until flush. Install retaining bolt and washer.
5.
Install sensor wiring into cable supports.
6.
Connect wheel sensor connector. Check anti-lock brake operation.
Rear
Removal
1.
Raise vehicle on a hoist. Remove tire and wheel assembly.
2.
Remove rear seat cushion. Remove scuff plate retaining screws. Remove scuff plate. Fold back carpeting to gain access to wheel sensor plug
connection.
3.
Remove wheel sensor connector from clip. Disconnect connector.
4.
Pry out grommet, and feed sensor wiring through floorpan.
5.
Disengage hand brake cable from retaining bracket. Remove front bolt from caliper slide pin. Lift front of caliper up and retain in position.
6.
Remove bolt and washer retaining wheel sensor to mounting bracket. Carefully remove wheel sensor. Check bore area around sensor mounting
for damage, rust or rough edges.
Installation
1.
Fill wheel sensor mounting bracket bore with lubricant. Apply a coat of lubricant to wheel sensor. Push firmly into mounting bracket bore until
flush. Tighten retaining washer and bolt to 6.2-8 lb-ft.
2.
Position caliper and install caliper slide pin front bolt. Tighten to 23-26 lb-ft. Engage parking brake cable into retaining bracket.
3.
Feed sensor wiring through floorpan and install grommet. Connect wheel sensor connector and secure in retaining clip. Ensure O-ring in
connector is pushed in firmly and seated correctly.
4.
Position carpeting in place. Install scuff plate and retaining screws. Install rear seat cushion.
5.
Install tire and wheel assembly. Lower vehicle and check anti-lock brake operation.
