Merkur Scorpio V6-179 2.9L (1989)
Prior to assembly, lubricate all parts with type F automatic transmission fluid.
1.
Using a suitable socket, press sleeve in housing, Fig. 7.
2.
Install new O-ring in sleeve, then the dowel pin.
3.
Install spring over sleeve.
4.
Install new O-ring on pressure plate.
5.
Place a reference mark on housing directly over dowel pin, then place a mark on pressure plate directly over dowel pin hole.
6.
Align reference marks, Fig. 8, then install pressure plate in housing.
7.
Install two dowel pins in pressure plate.

Install pump ring over dowel pins with identification marks on ring facing thrust plate, Fig. 9.
9.
Install rotor in pump ring so rotor counterbore faces driveshaft and bearing assembly, then install ten vanes into rotor.
10.
Install new O-ring in housing.
11.
Position thrust plate in pump so dimples on plate are aligned with mounting holes, Fig. 10.
12.
Press thrust plate into housing, then install retaining ring so opening in ring faces mounting bolt hole nearest to access hole.
13.
Press bearing on driveshaft, if removed.
14.
Using suitable socket install driveshaft seal into housing, if removed.
15.
Install driveshaft and bearing by sliding into housing while rotating shaft so serrations engage rotor.
16.
Ensure shaft and bearing are bottomed in housing, then install retaining ring with beveled edge up.
17.
Install spring, control valve and O-ring.
18.
Install fitting and tighten to specifications.
19.
Using flange installer tool No. T65P-3A733-1 or equivalent, install drive flange.
