Brake Fluid Accumulator: Service and Repair
It is mandatory that hydraulic pressure be discharged from the system before hydraulic accumulator removal. The hydraulic accumulator
contains brake fluid under high pressure. Turn ignition to off and pump brake pedal a minimum of 20 times until an increase in pedal force is
clearly felt to discharge system pressure.
Removal
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Wrap a clean cloth around the base of accumulator to absorb residual brake fluid during accumulator removal. Use a 8mm Allen wrench or socket
to remove accumulator from hydraulic unit.
3.
Cover base of accumulator with a clean cloth to prevent entry of contaminants.
4.
Remove O-ring seal from accumulator and discard.
Installation
1.
Install a new O-ring onto accumulator.
2.
Use a 8mm Allen wrench or socket to install accumulator to hydraulic unit. Tighten to 25-33 lb-ft.
3.
Connect battery ground cable, turn ignition to Run and check accumulator charge time. It should be less that one minute.
4.
Perform system brake bleeding procedures and check for leaks. Also check boost and anti-lock brake operation.
