M/T - Fluid Leak From Countershaft

LEAK-TRANSMISSION FLUID FROM COUNTERSHAFT

TRANSMISSION-MANUAL-FLUID LEAK FROM COUNTERSHAFT

ISSUE:

Transmission fluid leakage at the countershaft bore area may be caused by too much clearance between the bore of the transmission case
and the countershaft.

ACTION:

Install a new metal gasket between the flywheel housing and the transmission case to prevent fluid leakage. Refer to the following
procedure for service details.

1.

Remove the transmission. Refer to the XR4Ti Shop Manual, Section 16-33 for service details.

Remove the clutch release lever and release bearing from the flywheel housing.

3.

Loosen the four (4) flywheel housing bolts so that the flywheel housing can be separated from the transmission case, Figure 1.

Clean oil residue from the countershaft area.

5.

Position the new metal gasket with the silicone side toward the transmission.

NOTE:

THE GASKET FITS BETWEEN THE FLYWHEEL HOUSING AND THE TRANSMISSION CASE AND SHOULD COVER THE
COUNTERSHAFT, FIGURE 2.
