Camshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

CAUTION:  DO NOT TURN THE CAMSHAFT DURING THE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURE OR THE FUEL SYSTEM
TIMING WILL BE OUT OF TIME WITH THE ENGINE AND POSSIBLY CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE.

NOTE:  Prior to the removal of the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor, set the No.1 cylinder to Top Dead Center (TDC) of the compression stroke. Then
note the position of the CMP sensor electrical connector. Installation procedures require that the electrical connector be located in the same position.

CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR REMOVAL -  4.0L (PUSHROD)

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery. See: Starting and Charging/Battery
2. Remove the upper intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Engine. 

3. Remove the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor.

Disconnect the CMP electrical connector.

Remove the screws.

Remove the CMP sensor.

INSTALLATION

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR REMOVAL 4.0 L (SOHC)

1. Remove the camshaft position (CMP) sensor.

Disconnect the electrical connector.

Remove the Stud bolt.

3

Remove the camshaft position sensor.
