Valve Spring: Service and Repair

Removal 

1. Remove the camshaft roller followers.
2. Hold the valve in the cylinder head.

3. Remove the spark plugs.

4. Apply a minimum of 965 kPa (140 psi) of compressed air to the cylinder.
3. Remove the valve springs.

Use Valve Spring Compressor to compress the valve spring.

Remove the valve spring retainer keys.

4. CAUTION:  If a valve drops into the cylinder, remove the cylinder head. 

Remove the following:

Remove the valve spring retainer.

2

Remove the valve spring.

5. Inspect components, if necessary.

Installation 

1. NOTE:  Lubricate the parts with Super Premium SAE 5W30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification

WSS-M2C153-G prior to installing.

Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
