ISSUE:
A "shudder" during a 1-2 upshift at moderate to heavy throttle will occur if the main oil pressure regulator isolator spring is not installed after
cleaning the valve body. This is caused by fluctuations in line pressure at the time of the 1-2 upshift. The transmission will perform normally
at light throttle openings.
ACTION:
If service is required, make sure the main oil pressure regulator spring is installed during reassembly. The main oil pressure regulator bore
has three springs, Figure 1. The springs are:
^
The main oil pressure regulator spring
^
The main regulator boost spring
^
The main regulator isolator spring.
NOTE:
THE ISOLATOR SPRING IS YELLOW IN COLOR AND IS THE SMALLEST IN DIAMETER OF THE THREE SPRINGS.
Special attention should be paid to proper installation of the main oil pressure regulator spring retainer. The retainer is similar to the one used in the
AOD valve body, but is installed in the opposite direction, Figure 1.
CAUTION:
IF THE RETAINER IS INSTALLED BACKWARDS, IT WILL CAUSE HIGH LINE PRESSURE AND RELATED DELAYED AND
HARSH UPSHIFTS.
