Evaporative Emission Components
DESCRIPTION
The evaporative emission valve performs its function within the Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) system as follows:

The evaporative emission valve is mounted in a rubber grommet at a central location in the upper surface of the fuel tank.

The evaporative emission valve uses a small orifice and shut off valve to allow only fuel vapor to pass into the evaporative emission hose and onto
the evaporative emissions canister (EVAP canister).

A vapor space between the fuel level and the fuel tank upper surface is combined with an orifice and float shut-off valve in the evaporative
emission valve to prevent liquid fuel from passing to the evaporative emission tube shut off valve and the evaporative emissions canister.

The vapor space also allows for thermal expansion of the fuel.
NOTE: Vehicles equipped with a 68 liter (18 gallon) fuel tank require the use of two evaporative emission valves. Vehicles equipped with a 61
liter (16 gallon) fuel tank use only one evaporative emission valve.
