Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring from Throttle Position (TP) sensor.
3. Remove two TP position sensor retaining screws.
4. Remove TP sensor.
INSTALLATION
1. Install TP sensor. Make sure rotary tangs on sensor are in proper alignment.
CAUTION: Slide rotary tangs into position over throttle shaft blade, then rotate TP sensor clockwise to installed position only. Failure to install the
TP sensor in this manner may result in damage to throttle position sensor or excessive idle speeds.
NOTE: This TP sensor is not adjustable.
2. Secure TP sensor to throttle body with two retaining screws. Tighten to 2.8-3.8 Nm (25-33 lb in).
3. Connect engine control sensor wiring to TP sensor.
4. Connect battery ground cable.
