Alignment: Service and Repair

Centering Steering Wheel

Center the steering wheel as follows:
1. Lock the steering wheel in the straight ahead position.
2. Adjust the rear toe-in.
3. Adjust the front toe-in.
4. Road test the vehicle to verify that the steering wheel is centered.

Pull or Drift

NOTE:  When trying to correct for pull/drift refer to the following conditions.

Vehicle will pull/drift:

toward the side with the most positive camber.

^

toward the side with the least positive caster.

^

toward the low side if vehicle is leaning.

NOTE:  Side-to-side ride height variation can cause side-to-side camber variation.

Ride Height

1. Examine the vehicle for indications of abnormal attitude, such as the front or rear end being higher or lower than normal.
2. Any heavy items in luggage or passenger compartments should be removed before checking wheel alignment.
3. If vehicle attitude is not normal and no unusual load is present, check for signs of damage or nonstandard replacement suspension parts.

Caster and Camber

NOTE:

Check front sub-frame alignment before caster/camber adjustments are performed.

Vehicles that require camber/caster adjustment can be corrected by loosening the front sub-frame retaining bolts and shifting the front sub-frame
as required. If further adjustment is required, use the following procedure:

1. Center-punch four spot welds on alignment plate(s).
2. Loosen three nuts attaching front shock absorber mounting bracket to vehicle.
