Wiper Motor: Service and Repair
Front Wiper Motor
REMOVAL
1. When installing the drive arm to a new windshield wiper motor, follow the instructions included in the new windshield wiper motor kit.
CAUTION: The internal permanent magnets used in the windshield wiper motor are a ceramic (glass-like) material. Care must be exercised in
handling the windshield wiper motor to avoid damaging the magnets. The windshield wiper motor must not be struck or tapped with a hammer or
other object.
2. Remove windshield wiper assembly.
3. Rotate windshield wiper operating arm clockwise to gain access to bolt retaining arm to windshield wiper motor.
NOTE: Always rotate windshield wiper operating arm in a clockwise (as viewed from output shaft) direction.
4. Remove windshield wiper operating arm retaining nut from windshield wiper motor.
5. Remove three bolts retaining windshield wiper motor to windshield wiper assembly.
6. Remove windshield wiper motor.
INSTALLATION
1. Position windshield wiper motor to windshield wiper assembly and install retaining bolts. Tighten to 13-17 Nm (115-151 Lb-In).
CAUTION: Do not exceed maximum torque specification on windshield wiper motor retaining bolts to prevent component damage.
NOTE: Windshield wiper motor must be secured by all three bolts to operate properly.
2. Install windshield wiper operating arm and retaining nut to windshield wiper motor.
3. Tighten nut to 17-26 Nm (13-17 Lb-Ft).
4. Install windshield wiper assembly.
CAUTION: Before reinstalling windshield wiper blade and arm assemblies, turn ignition switch to RUN, turn wiper switch to LO or HI, and then
turn wiper switch OFF to cycle the wipers and allow them to park. Failure to cycle the wipers may result in incorrect wiper arm positioning
causing the wipers to travel past their intended wipe area and possibly damage the vehicle.
5. Connect battery ground cable. Check windshield wiper motor operation in all modes.
