Muffler: Service and Repair

WARNING: THE NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS VERY HIGH. NEVER WORK AROUND
OR ATTEMPT TO SERVICE ANY PART OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM UNTIL IT HAS COOLED. USE SPECIAL CARE WHEN
WORKING AROUND THE THREE WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER (TWC). THESE UNITS HEAT TO A HIGH TEMPERATURE
AFTER ONLY A SHORT PERIOD OF ENGINE OPERATION.

REMOVAL

1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove left rear wheel and tire assembly.
3. Disconnect LH rear lower control arm at ball joint.
4. Support muffler with a suitable jack stand and remove muffler from the exhaust hanger insulators.
5. Remove exhaust clamp and remove the muffler from the exhaust system flex tube.

INSTALLATION

1. Position muffler and slide it onto exhaust system flex tube or three way catalytic converter.
2. Install muffler onto exhaust hanger insulators and install and tighten exhaust clamp to 34-46 Nm (25-33 ft. lbs.).
3. Connect LH rear lower control arm to ball joint. 
4. Install wheel and tire assembly.
5. Check system for exhaust leaks.
6. Lower vehicle.
