Vehicle Lifting: Service and Repair
LIFTING INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION: When using a hoist to lift vehicle, make sure it is positioned only at points indicated in the illustration. Positioning at other points may
cause considerable damage to body, steering, suspension, engine, braking system and fuel lines.
Hoisting And Lifting Points
The illustration shows hoisting and lifting locations.
Hoist, Drive On
To prevent possible damage to the underbody, do not drive the vehicle onto the drive-on hoist without first checking for possible interference
between the upright flanges of the hoist rails and the underbody. Should there be interference, the hoist flanges should be modified and the
approach ramps built up to provide the necessary clearance.
Hoist, Frame Contact
CAUTION: All four contact points must contact the adapters.
On frame contact hoists, if hoist will contact vehicle ground effects, hoist adapters are necessary to lift the vehicle. The adapters must be placed at
the four hoisting and lifting contact points. Position the adapters so they are centered on the contact area.
-
Front adapter location is under floor pan reinforcements, behind the front suspension. Refer to the hoisting and lifting point illustration for
vehicle contact points.
-
Rear adapter location is under rear side sill, forward of rear wheel openings. Use a cushioned pad, if possible, to avoid damaging body paint.
Contact with lower rocker panel trim by lifting arms will cause damage to panel. Keep adapters behind jack notch in rear side sill to avoid
damaging parking brake cable bracket. Refer to the hoisting and lifting point illustration for vehicle contact points.
Do not allow the adapters to contact the rear suspension tension strut and bushing.
