BUZZ/HOOT/HUM/WHINE NOISE FROM FRONT HEATER/EVAPORATOR

FORD:
2008 Taurus X, Taurus

MERCURY:
2008 Sable

ISSUE
Some 2008 Taurus, Sable or Taurus X vehicles built before 12/3/2007, may exhibit a noise described as a buzzing, hooting, humming or whining from
the center panel registers. This noise is most noticeable from the right center register when the climate control system is set to Floor Floor/Defrost or
Defrost mode, the temperature selector at maximum heat, and the blower speed is at 75% or greater. This noise may be due to air flowing past the mode
door seal.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

With the ignition turned on, set the Temperature Selector at its highest (warmest) setting, and the blower speed to high.

2.

Cycle through each of the available climate control operating modes:

a.

If the noise can be heard in the Panel or Panel/Floor modes, do NOT continue with this TSB. Refer to normal Workshop Manual (WSM),
Section 100-04 diagnostic procedures.

b.

If the noise is only present in Floor, Floor/Defrost or Defroster modes, proceed to Step 3 and install a revised plenum chamber.

3.

Remove the plenum chamber as described in WSM, Section 412-01.

4.

Transfer the door actuators from the old plenum chamber to the new plenum chamber.

5.

Install the new plenum chamber as described in WSM, Section 412-01.
