Camshaft: Service and Repair
1.
Remove engine from vehicle and mount in suitable work stand.
2.
Remove front cover and timing chain as described in FRONT COVER.
3.
Remove intake manifold and hydraulic valve lifters as described in HYDRAULIC VALVE LIFTERS.
4.
Remove camshaft thrust plate, then carefully pull camshaft from cylinder block. Use caution to avoid damaging bearings, journals and lobes.
5.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque camshaft thrust plate attaching screws to specification.
b. Lubricate lifters, lifter bores, rocker arms and pushrods with oil conditioner D9AZ-19579-A or suitable heavy engine oil.
