Valve Cover: Service and Repair

1.

Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.

2.

Disconnect battery ground cable, then disconnect spark plug wires from spark plugs.

3.

Remove spark plug wire separators from rocker arm cover attaching bolt studs.

4.

If left side rocker arm cover is being removed, performing the following:
a. Disconnect crankcase breather hose and remove oil filler cap.
b. Remove fuel injector harness stand-offs from inboard rocker arm cover studs and position harness out of the way.

5.

If right side rocker arm cover is removed, perform the following:
a. Remove throttle body assembly.
b. Disconnect EGR tube and heater hoses.
c. Remove PCV valve and move fuel injector harness out of the way.

6.

Remove rocker arm cover attaching bolts, then the cover.

7.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Lightly oil bolt and stud threads prior to installation.
b. Apply bead of RTV sealant at cylinder head to intake manifold rail step.
c. Torque rocker arm cover attaching bolts and EGR tube to specifications.
