Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair
1.
On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag system as described under Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint
Systems)/Service and Repair/Airbag System Disarming.
2.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
3.
On tilt columns, remove upper extension shroud by unsnapping shroud from from retaining clip at 9 o'clock position.
4.
On all models, remove five screws retaining the two trim shroud halves.
5.
Disconnect key warning buzzer electrical connector, then turn the ignition key to the RUN position.
6.
Place 1/8 diameter pin or small drift punch into hole in casting surrounding lock cylinder. Depress retaining pin while pulling out on lock cylinder
to remove it from column housing.

Install lock cylinder by turning it to RUN position and depressing retaining pin. Insert lock cylinder into lock cylinder housing. Ensure cylinder is
fully seated and aligned in the interlocking washer before turning key to the OFF position. This will permit cylinder retaining pin to
extend into cylinder housing hole.
8.
Rotate lock cylinder, using lock cylinder key, to ensure correct mechanical operation in all positions.
9.
Connect key warning buzzer connector, then install shroud.
10.
Connect battery ground cable and ensure proper operation. Ensure vehicle cannot be started in drive and reverse.
