Tie Rod Boot: Service and Repair

1.
Mount steering gear in holding fixture tool No. D87P-3504-B or equivalent.
2.
Remove outer tie rod ends and locknuts.
3.
Remove clamps retaining bellows to gear housing, then remove bellows and breather tube.
4.
With a sharp chisel, gently tap around rivet head so it lifts away from ball joint, Fig. 18.
5.
Use side cutters to pry out drive pin, Fig. 19.
6.
Position rack so several teeth are exposed. Hold hack with an adjustable wrench on end teeth only, while loosening ball joints nuts with yoke
locknut tool No. T81P-3504-G or equivalent.
