Fig. 6 Tie Rod Installation

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. From inside of luggage compartment, loosen two strut top mount to body nuts.
3. Raise vehicle. Position a suitable jack under lower control arm with a piece of wood between jack and control arm.
4. Remove wheel assembly.
5. Remove two top mount studs, then tie rod to spindle retaining nut.
6. Remove tie rod to body retaining nut.
7. Lower jack until upper strut mount studs clear body mount holes.
8. Move spindle rearward until tie rod can be removed.
9. Place new washers and bushings on both ends of tie rod.

NOTE:  Front and rear bushings are not interchangeable. The rear bushings have indentations incorporated in them.

10. Insert tie rod into body bracket, then install new bushing, washer and nut. Do not tighten nut.
11. Pull back on spindle until tie rod can be installed into the spindle. Install new bushing, washer and nut. Do not tighten nut.
12. Raise jack enough to secure the two strut mounting studs in place.
13. Install two strut to body mount nuts. Torque nuts to specifications.
14. Using a suitable jack, raise lower control arm to curb height. Install tie rod nuts and torque to specifications.
15. Remove jack and install wheel assembly. Lower vehicle.
