Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. If equipped with a tilt column, tilt the steering wheel down.
3. If equipped with a standard column, remove the four steering column upper mounting bracket bolts.
4. Lower the steering column.
5. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the instrument cluster by reaching up behind the cluster and squeezing the cable retainer.
6. Remove the eight cap screws securing the instrument panel finish panel to the instrument panel.

7. Pull the instrument panel finish panel away from the instrument panel, and disconnect the heated back window switch and outside mirror control

electrical connectors (if equipped).

8. Remove the instrument panel finish panel.
9. Remove the screws and bolts securing the instrument cluster to the instrument panel.

10. Pull the instrument cluster out slightly and disconnect the three electrical connectors from the rear of the cluster.
11. Remove the cluster from the instrument panel.

INSTALLATION

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
2. Make sure that the cluster is held in its rearmost position while installing the two upper instrument cluster screws.
3. Test drive vehicle to verify proper speedometer and gauge operation.
