Brake Rotor/Disc: Testing and Inspection
Minimum Thickness
DESCRIPTION
Measure Front Disc Brake Rotor Thickness
Whenever the front brakes are serviced, the disc brake rotor must be visually inspected to check for any abnormal wear, and checked with a
micrometer to make sure the thickness is within the specifications. There must be no front wheel bearing free play when checking for front disc
brake rotor runout.
THICKNESS
The minimum allowable overall disc brake rotor thickness is stamped on the disc brake rotor and must not be exceeded. The rotor thickness after
machining should be 0.760 mm (0.030) greater than the discard thickness. This allows for front disc brake rotor wear after the front disc brake
rotor has been resurfaced and returned to service.
SPECIFICATIONS
Use Disc Rotor Micrometer to measure the thickness of the disc brake rotor.

Rotor And Brake Shoe And Lining Hand Sanding
If there are only surface irregularities, the front disc brake rotor may be resurfaced by lightly sanding the face with a fine emery cloth.
