Heater Core: Description and Operation
The heater core is located inside the heater assembly.
The heater assembly connects directly to the A/C evaporator/blower motor assembly. The heater assembly contains the:

Heater core

Temperature blend door

Panel bypass door
^
Temperature blend door/panel bypass door actuator motor

Panel doors
^
Floor door
^
Defrost door
^
Panel/floor/defrost door actuator motor
The air sent from the blower assembly enters the heater assembly and is directed through and/or around the heater core, depending on the position of the
temperature blend door.
The position of the temperature blend door is controlled by the temperature control in the climate control assembly. A potentiometer in the temperature
control operates a temperature blend door/panel bypass door actuator motor that controls the movement of the temperature blend door. When the
temperature control is in the maximum COOL position. the temperature blend door directs air flow to bypass the heater core and enter the vehicle
interior unheated. When the temperature control is in the maximum WARM position, all of the air flow is directed through the heater core with no air
flow bypassing the heater core. Positioning the temperature control between these two positions allows for a blend of both heated and unheated air.
After the air passes the temperature blend door and heater core, it is then directed by one or more of the mode doors in the heater assembly. The air is
then sent through the appropriate ducts and registers to heat the vehicle interior.
