Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

Front Suspension

1.

Raise and support vehicle.

2.

Remove wheel and tire assembly.

3.

Remove front brake caliper and wire aside. It is not necessary to disconnect the brake line.

4.

Remove the rotor and grease cap.

5.

Remove steering knuckle/wheel hub assembly nut cotter pin.

6.

Remove castle nut.

7.

Remove steering knuckle/wheel hub nut.

8.

Remove ball joint cotter pin from ball joint shaft. Loosen ball joint nut until it contacts outer CV joint.

9.

Strike steering knuckle with a hammer while pulling down on the control arm until the ball joint breaks free from the steering knuckle.

10.

Remove ball joint nut. Separate ball joint from steering knuckle/wheel hub assembly.

11.

Remove tie rod end from steering knuckle/wheel hub assembly.

12.

Remove wheel speed sensor bolt.

13.

Remove strut to steering knuckle/wheel hub assembly nuts and bolts.

14.

Remove strut to steering knuckle/wheel hub assembly.

15.

Use Two-Jaw Puller tool No. D80L-1102-L or equivalent, to separate halfshaft from steering knuckle/wheel hub assembly.

16.

Remove steering knuckle/wheel hub assembly from vehicle.

17.

Remove steering stop bolt if necessary.

18.

Reverse procedure to install.
