Wheels: Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
Inspect the lug nuts and tighten to 98-118 Nm (72-87 ft. lbs.). Loose lug nuts can cause shimmy and vibration, and may also cause elongation of the
holes in the wheels.
Make sure wheels and wheel hubs are clean. Stones wedged between the wheels and front disc brake rotors and brake drums, or lumps of mud or grease
can unbalance the wheel.
Check for wheel damage. Wobble or shimmy caused by a damaged wheel will eventually damage the wheel bearings. Inspect the wheels for dents that
could leak air.
In order to accurately diagnose concerns about the wheels and tires, there are many conditions which need to be considered. These include vibration,
wheel and tire runout, tire runout, match mounting tires, and wheel runout, and tire wear diagnosis.
