Throttle Position Sensor/Switch: Description and Operation
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
The Throttle Position (TP) sensor is a variable resistor located on the throttle body. The TP sensor detects the opening of the throttle and sends this
information to the Transmission Control Module (TCM). The TCM uses this information to control transaxle shifting, lockup, and line pressure.
IDLE SWITCH
The idle switch is integrated with the throttle position sensor. The idle control switch sends a signal to the powertrain control module when the throttle
valve is fully closed.
