Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the lug nuts and the front wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove the seven RH or seven LH engine and transmission splash shield screws and the engine and transmission splash shield.
NOTE: If necessary, remove the six RH front fender inner splash shield screws and the RH front fender inner splash shield.
4. Remove and discard the cotter pin.
5. Remove the front axle wheel hub retainer.
6. Remove the front wheel outer bearing retainer washer.
7. Remove the cotter pin from the front suspension lower arm ball joint. Discard the cotter pin.
8. Loosen the front suspension lower arm ball joint nut until it contacts the front wheel driveshaft joint.
