Water Pump

Tension Adjustment

1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the engine splash shield.

3. NOTE:  A drive belt is considered new if it has been used on a running engine for less than five minutes.

Adjust the water pump and power steering belt tension.
1. Loosen the water pump and power steering drive belt idler pulley locknut.
2. Tighten the water pump and power steering drive belt idler pulley adjustment bolt while using a suitable tension gauge to measure the tension

of the water pump and power steering belt midway between the water pump pulley and the power steering pulley.

The tension for the water pump and power steering drive belt should measure between 603 and 691 N (136 and 155 lbs.) for a new belt, or
between 495 and 583 N (112 and 131 lbs.) for a used belt.

3. Tighten the water pump and power steering drive belt idler pulley locknut.

Deflection Adjustment

1. NOTE:  Always check the drive belt deflection when the engine is cold, or has been stopped for a minimum of 30 minutes.

NOTE:  A belt is considered new if it has been used on a funning engine for less than five minutes.

Measure the water pump and power steering drive belt deflection by applying 98 N (22 lbs.) of pressure to the water pump and power steering
drive belt midway between the water pump and power steering pulley.

The water pump and power steering drive belt deflection should measure between 8 and 10 mm (0.31 and 0.39 inch) for a new drive belt, and
between 10 and 12 mm (0.39 and 0.47 inch) for a used drive belt. Adjust as necessary.
