For reassembly purposes paint timing chain to triangular timing mark (2).

the copper colored link has no relation to this process.

Note:  the design of the timing chain cover will allow the timing chain to stay on the crankshaft gear, without skipping any teeth.

Do not rotate engine.

Remove hydraulic chain tensioner. 

Hold camshaft gear with special tool 11 8 250 and slacken camshaft retaining bolt (1) but do not remove. 

Remove special tool 11 8 250.

Remove camshaft gear retaining bolt and remove gear and chain.

Install hint: Check triangular timing mark on camshaft gear is still aligned with the timing chain link that was painted during dismantling. 

Install camshaft gear on camshaft flange and refit retaining bolt with special tool 11 8 250.

Caution:  Do not use an impact wrench for tightening the camshaft gear bolt. Damage to the camshaft timing pin can result. Use a hand wrench only.

Remove rocker shafts.
