Front Subframe: Service and Repair
Lowering/Raising Front Axle Carrier (Special Tool SWZ 00 2 040)

31 11 506 - Lowering/raising front axle carrier (special tool SWZ00-2040)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

-

Remove front wheels See: Maintenance/Wheels and Tires/Wheels/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Removing or Installing Front or
Rear Wheel

If necessary, remove underbody protection.

-

Remove complete exhaust system.

-

Release lower bumper trim.

-

Partially remove front left and right wheel arch covers See: Fender/Front Fender/Front Fender Liner/Service and Repair.

-

R55, R56: Partially remove underbody panelling on left and right at front.

-

If necessary, disconnect plug connection on ride-height sensor and expose line up to engine carrier.

Important!

If the steering spindle is separated from the steering gear, this can result in damage to the steering-column switch cluster when the steering wheel is
turned!

Release screw (1).

Tightening torque 32 31 2AZ See: Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Column/Specifications.
Detach lower section of steering spindle (2) from steering gear and swing towards rear.
