Front Outside Door Handle - Replacement Procedure

SIGMA FRONT OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE
REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

PURPOSE
This bulletin is issued to add procedures for replacing the outside door handle and adjusting the door handle play on the 1988 Galant Sigma.

INSTRUCTIONS

1.

Remove the front door inner panel trim and disconnect the power window switch. For easier access to the door handle rod and lock rod, remove
the door belt line moulding. (Refer to Section 23 in the 1988 GALANT SIGMA Service Manual Vol.1 for this procedure.)

2.

Carefully strip the front door waterproof film as shown in Figure 1 until the front and rear window glass mounting nuts and the outside handle
mounting nuts are visible.

NOTE:

Repair or replace the waterproof film if it is damaged.

3.

Connect the power window switch and lower the window glass. Remove the rear glass mounting nut (B) as shown in Figure 1 and loosen the front
window glass mounting nut (A) so that the window pivots on it.

4.

Raise the rear of the front door glass by hand as shown in Figure 2, and pry the door handle rod out of the rod snap with a standard screwdriver.

NOTE:

Always install a new rod snap (Part No. MA166086).
