NOTE: This Campaign is being conducted for vehicles within this Engine No. Range: KA24E-006737 to KA24E-009358. Please
note that the usual VIN Range is not used to identify affected vehicles.

SERVICE INFORMATION

On 1989 240SX vehicles manufactured within the Engine No. Range, the timing chain guide may have a diminished service life resulting in failure at
relatively low mileage. Should this component fail while the vehicle is in operation, it may cause severe engine damage. Affected vehicle owners have
been notified by letter. A copy of this letter is attached to this bulletin. Affected vehicles in Dealer inventory should be corrected before delivery to the
retail customer! A countermeasure timing chain tensioner and timing chain guide has been developed and should be installed immediately on vehicles
within the applied Engine No. Range. This Technical Bulletin contains an inspection and replacement procedure for these components.

Service Procedure

CAUTION: It is important to follow this procedure exactly as described in this Technical Bulletin. This procedure is a much expanded version of the

one found in the 1989 240SX Service Manual, and contains key steps that must be followed.

Disassembly of Timing Chain

1.

Record the pre-set radio stations. Disconnect negative (-) battery cable. Remove radiator cap before raising vehicle.

2.

Raise the vehicle on a hoist.

3.

Remove the lower engine molded plastic cover.

4.

Drain the engine oil.
