SERVICE INFORMATION

If a 1990 300ZX turbo vehicle is involved in a minor front end collision - particularly at either or both of the front corners - damage may occur to the
intercoolers that cannot be seen.  If a customer complains that, after their vehicle has been in a recent minor front end collision, it will not accelerate past
about 3000 RPM, and that no turbo boost shows on the gauge, it is possible that the intercoolers may have been damaged.  Use the following procedure
to inspect and repair vehicles that exhibit the symptoms described above.

INSPECTION/REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Attempt to verify if the incident vehicle was involved in a front end collision prior to symptom occurance.

2.

Verify that no trouble codes are stored in the engine control unit (E.C.U.).

3.

Remove the under-engine and front bumper covers, using the procedures found in the 1990 300ZX Turbo Service Manual.

4.

Inspect the intercoolers for damage to the tank seams and fins.  If any cracks or dents are present, replace the intercooler.

5.

When installing the new intercooler, ensure that the hoses are securely attached and that there is no interference from the bumper cover and/or
surrounding bodywork.

6.

After the repair is complete, test drive the vehicle to confirm proper driveablilty, and that the boost reaches about 10 PSI on the panel gauge.
