FUEL SUB-GAUGE CLEANING PROCEDURE
SERVICE INFORMATION
1984 and 1985 300ZX model fuel sub-gauges (digital and analog) may display erroneous readings usually caused by certain fuel additives. The main
gauge, however, displays the correct fuel level reading. An improved fuel tank sending unit will be available in approximately 3 to 4 months. If the
customer is concerned and cannot wait until the improved parts are available, use the following Service Procedure to clean the fuel tank sending unit.
Advise the customer that this cleaning procedure is only a temporary fix and that the malfunction may recur before the improved part is available.
SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Remove the fuel gauge sending unit from fuel tank.

2.

If the lower hook of the sending unit is bent, replace the sending unit.

3.

Remove the pin, lower plate, sealing, chamber and float.

4.

Dry the resistance bar thoroughly with a rag and apply masking tape to the resistance surface (dark gray).

5.

Sand the conductor surface (white) in one direction with No. 600-800 wet sandpaper.
