Install tie rod inner socket, boot and tie rod to rack and housing assembly, then check rack stroke, Figs. 23 and 24. Note that dimension L, Fig. 23,
should measure 37.5 mm (1.476 inch) on 1984 models or 42.9 mm (1.689 inch) on 1985-88 models.

Install pinion and rear housing assemblies, being careful not to damage oil seal. Adjust pinion preload as previously described, then torque rear
housing cover locknut to 58-101 ft. lbs.

10.

Install retainer assembly, ensuring that pinion preload and rack steering force are within specifications as previously described.

11.

Check rack for smooth operation over entire stroke without binding or noise.

12.

Install hydraulic piping and breather hose.
