Remove the rack and inner tube assembly from the press. Remove the old cylinder end housing and drift from the rack. Install the plastic inner
tube collar and new O-ring onto the inner tube assembly.

9.

Install the pinion housing in Power Steering Stand J28817.

10.

Coat the new pinion oil seal with 'DEXRON Type' ATF and press in place with Pinion Seal Installer J28527 (Figure 17).

11.

Install two new O-rings on the Cylinder assembly and coat with 'DEXRON Type' ATF (Figure 18).

12.

Coat rack Piston and O-ring on inner tube with 'DEXRON Type' ATF, coat rack teeth with grease and Slide rack into the Pinion housing.

13.

Carefully twist the inner tube assembly to seat the O-ring in the pinion housing.

14.

Slide the cylinder assembly onto the rack and into the pinion housing (Figure 18) and torque lock nut to 78-108 N-m (58-80 ft-lbs) using Cylinder
Lock Nut Wrench J28820.

15.

Wrap cellophane tape around the sharp edges on the end of the rack (Figure 19).

16.

Coat the oil seal in the new Cylinder end housing with 'DEXRON Type' ATF and slide the rack bushing into place in the new cylinder end housing
(Figure 19).

17.

Carefully slide the end housing and rack bushing onto the rack, being careful not to nick or cut the seal. Tighten the lock nut by hand. DO not fully
tighten at this time.

18.

Wrap cellophane tape around splines of pinion assembly (Figure 20).
